When the wife is away....the husband will play...with powertools, that is!

I went shopping the other day (looking for a new project) and left my husband and his best friend in our basement... I came home to this!!!
Yep, that's a hole in our basement floor!  I guess that's what you get when you leave men in a basement with power-tools lol.. I'll keep you all posted  on the basement progress.

I don't know about you guys, but I am in love with build ins!  Ryan found a few spots to add some build ins in our basement:)  Love him!

These pictures are backwards, this is what the basement looked like before I left on my shopping adventure.  Little did I know...

Before, During and After

Our latest project
This poor hutch was cooped up in a workshop for who knows how long.  Ryan rescued it and we decided to give it a little love.

Ryan made these doors for the bottom, which is great because it adds storage

Before we painted the doors to match

Done and decorated. My new love:)

Changing up the seating

I could honestly kick myself for all of the times I didn't take before pictures! I am getting better, but it sure would have been nice to be able to show you our kitchen table before the Schraders got a hold of it. Well, this Schrader anyway. It was Ryan's college table, oh if tables could talk:) Anyway it was a light maple and very plain Jane, I gave it a quick frosting of espresso paint on the top and good ol' white coat for the base.
Not too bad for free, and really those chairs did the job for the last 3 years.  Which brings me to my sad sad story...
I was thriftin a few weeks ago and found 6 great chairs for $6 a piece!!!!! So why didn't I pay for them and load um up?  Well I got talked out of them by my loving husband.  You see sometimes he just doesn't see the potential in things, or maybe he just didn't feel like spray painting 6 chairs.  I don't know but again, there I was 3 days later kicking myself  at that same thrift store because they were GONE!  Tear:(

Well I got over it and began my search again.....
I found these last weekend, and I'm not sure if I was just desperate or what, but I picked them up for $24 total! That included 4 chairs and a table.  I left the table for someone else to re-do, and loaded up the chairs with help from my mom (who is the whole reason I am into resale shopping and being thrifty by the way)

Ryan laughed at me as I was unloading these babies from my car.  They were kinda gross.
We got started right away, I had some fabric from some DIY kitchen curtins I made this summer, it just so happens if was just enough to re-cover the seats.  I had to run to Hobby Lobby to get some new padding (you never know what road those chairs have traveled if you know what I'm saying)

Here is the end result, I feel the chairs gave the lovely old table a little face lift, what do you think?

Home made Home signs

We just recently gave our laundry room some lovin( Check out the process here), and with that I made some word art to display...

Here are some supplies I used
Gotta love scrap book paper and Mod Podge, "Oh the places you'll go" with those supplies:)
Some scrap wood, and acrylic paint in a dark coffee and cream coffee color
I Mod Podged the scrap book paper to the wood piece and waited for it to dry, after that I free handed the word SOAP with the dark coffee colored paint

DONE AND DONE!

Given some Lovin to the Laundry room

Photobucket

Photobucket

Our set up for laundry is a little strange...you actually have to go though our laundry room to get to our bathroom on the main floor.  (Not my favorite part of our house)  Ryan and I have been brain storming for awhile on how to make this room look more attractive.  We were going to put cabinets, but when we went shopping for them, I was in shock!  No way was I going to spend over $200 dollars for cabinets I didn't even like that much.  So it has looked that way for over 3 years now, until last week when the DIY in me took over and I explained my idea to Ryan.
No sooner did I explain then we were off to Menards to get the trim pieces.  (We already had the MDF board for the shelves, Ryan just had to cut it)

I got the iron L brackets from Hobby Lobby 50% off, thank you very much!  They were $4 each!!!

After some white trim paint we already had, here is the finished product.  I would say much more attractive then the before:)
